Support for learners
I offer a comprehensive range of services designed to support individuals with reading and writing difficulties. Contact me for a free initial consultation to discuss your child's specific requirements and outline how my services can best support their educational goals.
Dyslexia Screening
Early identification and support can make a huge difference for children with dyslexia or literacy difficulties. Waiting lists for diagnosis can be very long. As a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher, I can carry out a thorough dyslexia screening for your child. While this is not a formal diagnosis, it provides detailed information for both families and schools to:
- teaching strategies to suit your child’s learning style
- Plan interventions and targeted support
- Make access arrangements in primary schools where needed
- Screening results are shared in a clear, easy-to-understand report with practical recommendations for home and school.
For more information about dyslexia, you can visit the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) website, or contact me directly to discuss what the screening involves and to book a session.
Tutoring
A skilled teacher or tutor can make a real difference to a child’s confidence, self-belief, and academic progress. I offer personalised tuition tailored to your child’s needs, helping them develop strategies to succeed in reading, writing, and other literacy areas.
How it works:
- Free initial consultation with parents to discuss your child’s strengths, challenges, and learning goals.
- Sessions at school: 45–60 minutes during the school day (with the school’s agreement this can work very well for children who are tired after school).
- Sessions at home or provider’s location: 45–60 minutes after school or during the day for home-schooled or flexible learners.
All tuition is designed to build skills, confidence, and independence, complementing school learning and supporting your child to reach their full potential.
Contact me to discuss your child’s needs and arrange a tailored tuition plan.
Irlen Screening
Irlen Syndrome affects how the brain processes visual information, which can make reading and other visual tasks tiring or uncomfortable. Children with visual stress may struggle with glare, high contrast text, or prolonged reading, which can impact their learning.
Screening can help identify strategies to support your child, such as coloured overlays, and provides practical advice for home and school.
Benefits of screening include:
- Understanding your child’s visual processing and potential challenges
- Identifying strategies to make reading and learning comfortable
- Providing practical recommendations for use at school and home
- Supporting collaboration with teachers to ensure your child’s needs are met in the classroom
Screening is supportive and gentle while giving you and your child a clear picture of how to improve their reading experience.
Contact me to find out more about the screening process and to book a test.
